The derivative is the slope you plug into point-slope form.
Concept
Slope plus a point
A tangent line touches the curve at x = a with the same slope the curve has there, namely f′(a).
With the slope and the point (a, f(a)), point-slope form finishes the job.
y − f(a) = f′(a)(x − a)
