Exponents & Powers
Repeated multiplication, with shortcut laws.
Concept
Notation first
b^n means multiply b by itself n times. 2^5 = 2×2×2×2×2 = 32.
Because it is repeated multiplication, combining powers of the same base becomes arithmetic on the exponents.
b^m × b^n = b^(m+n) · b^m ÷ b^n = b^(m−n)
